Cardiac Rehabilitation Program

The Cardiac Rehab program at NGH is available for those who have had a heart attack, chest pain, or surgical procedures such as coronary artery bypass graft or angioplasty. Our services are designed to help participants recover faster and return to full, productive lives.

During these sessions you will learn how to progress at a safe and reasonable rate. The value of exercising in our facility is that you will be monitored by telemetry, making sure your heart is responding well to the exercises. With careful monitoring, you are encouraged to perform exercises to eventually reach your target heart rate. Your blood pressure will be monitored before, during, and after exercise. We will teach you about nutrition, medication, and heart healthy living and lifestyle modifications. Research has shown that getting the heart properly reconditioned after any cardiac event will make you feel better, be stronger, and live longer. The program is three times weekly for twelve weeks and is covered by Medicare and most private insurances.

The Pulmonary Rehab Program at NGH is available for those who are functionally limited due to: COPD, Asthma, Emphysema, Chronic Bronchitis, or post-respiratory complications.

Our multidisciplinary staff assists each participant in returning to their highest functional capacity by focusing on restoring and promoting health. Each individual will have increased endurance and strength enabling them to perform activities of daily living easier. Teaching will be performed to increase the understanding of each person’s disease process, with the goal of avoiding future health problems. Participants can benefit from this program by learning special breathing techniques combined with exercise and stress reduction. The program is 2-3 times weekly for 24 sessions and is covered by Medicare and most private insurances.
